MCCO Update: DMV, Passport and Pistol Saturday To Open, by Appointment Only

October 30th, 2020 (Rochester, NY) This morning, Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo announced that the Clerk’s Office will open for U.S. Passport and Pistol Permit application appointments and the Greece DMV Branch will open for all DMV transaction appointments the last Saturday of each month, excluding December.

Under Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 202.43, all county-run Department of Motor Vehicle offices were allowed to reopen to in-person transactions only if conducted by appointment only. The County Clerk’s Office has been working diligently to address the backlogs of mailed-in transactions and dropbox plate surrenders. With these processes now more efficient, the Clerk’s Office can expand hours to residents once again to meet the significant need in our community.

“Again I have to thank the staff at the County Clerk’s Office. Without their hard work and dedication throughout this pandemic, we would not be in a position to again expand hours and access as we have continued to do since we opened back up to the public.” Romeo stated.

Since the reopening in July, Monroe County DMVs have processed a total of 113,546 transactions. To date, Monroe County DMVs have already processed more auto dealer commercial transactions and new pistol permit applications than were processed at this time in 2019.

In addition,  the County Clerk again encourages residents to complete simple transactions, such as license and registrations renewals, online when possible. Recent reports have stated that 1 in 5 homes in Rochester has no broadband connection. Public DMV terminals at the County Office Building will be available to the public without an appointment on these Saturdays.
