Rochester, N.Y — Celebrations kicked off around the world Friday to commemorate International Women's Day. Communities gathered across the country to honor the achievements of women throughout history.
Close to home, the Monroe County Legislature saluted women in the public service, discussing motivations and achievements and empowering women to pursue their goals.
“Its a time to remember the tenacious women that opened doors for subsequent generations, like the pioneering Rochesterian Susan B. Anthony,” said Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo. “While much has been achieved, it is clear much more work remains combating domestic violence, systemic pay disparities, and growing threats to women’s reproductive freedoms.”
